Psalm 149 Dance Studio Policies and Safety Guidelines

All parents and students must complete a registration form when joining the school with clear information regarding emergency contacts and any relevant medical history.

A copy of primary and emergency contact numbers will be kept on class registers.

It is the parent’s responsibility to notify the school of any changes to their emergency contact details

In case of a fire emergency all teachers have a clear understanding of procedures to follow.

The school will undertake regular assessment of risks regarding our premises and any concerns will be raised with the owners.

It is the schools responsibility to keep a fully equipped first aid box within the building. In case of an incident an accident report must be completed and a copy given to parent/guardian on collection.

All teachers are required to have up to date first aid training.

If required the school will contact the emergency services first, then the parent / guardian of the student(s) involved by the telephone number on the class registers.

Parents understand that dance is an active sport and injuries can happen. The school accepts no responsibility for injuries sustained via any means other than a teacher’s negligence.

Pupils will be supervised during class time only and parents / carers must ensure the safety of their children in the car park, waiting, changing and toilet areas.

We hold no responsibility for children and young adults using the grounds around the building, or in unauthorized areas of the building.

We currently offer personal training and have equipment for this as well as fitness classes on site. Students are not permitted to use or be on any of this equipment unless given permission by an adult on our staff (parents can not permit for their student) and actively supervised. We will not be held responsible for any injuries occurring as a result of using this equipment

Children are not permitted in the kitchen area, youth group area, or children’s ministry area at any time.

Students/parents or guardians should inform the teacher of any special health considerations or existing injuries before participating in class

Parents must be responsible for ensuring your child’s punctuality.

Dress code must be observed at all times, especially footwear for safe dance practice.

Only indoor dance shoes should be worn inside the studio to protect the floor and for health and safety reasons.

Shoes must be worn when using the toilet facilities.

Pupils should not wear any jewellery that may pose a risk to themselves or others (stud earrings, and jewellery worn for religious or cultural reasons are acceptable).

No food (or chewing gum) is allowed in the studio. Water is permitted in cap bottles.

No child will be allowed to leave the studio with anyone other than a parent unless confirmed with the teacher prior to class either verbally or via email.

Students are required to actively listen and follow all instructions given by their teacher. Our staff is aware of safety protocols and will instruct accordingly.

Go jewelry-free. Obtrusive jewelry is potentially dangerous to you and others.

Listen while the dance teacher is talking. That means no talking while they’re talking. Not even quietly to your neighbor.

Stow away the cell phone. Turn off—don’t just silence—your cell phone. Putting it on vibrate can still make distracting noise.

Don’t film or take pictures in class. Always ask your dance teacher’s permission before recording or photographing any portion of your dance class.

Pay attention at all times, especially when waiting for your turn, and don’t ever sit down unless you’re asked to.

Stay for the entire class. It’s always best to stay for the entire duration of the class, but if you must leave early, talk to the teacher beforehand and make your exit as quick and discreet as possible.

Don’t leave and come back into your class. Stay in the studio for the entirety of class—no ins-and-outs. This can be distracting to your fellow dancers.

Always arrive on time. If you can’t avoid being late, enter very quietly and wait for the ok from your teacher to enter the dance floor. After class, be sure to apologize for your late arrival.

Demonstrate good spatial awareness. This includes giving the instructor space, but don’t crowd those in the back of the room to do so.

Try your best. If you are in a class that’s above your skill level, never walk out of a class or sit down in frustration—hang in there and try your best, no one will fault you for that.

Be courteous and respectful. At the end of class, please thank the instructor.

Follow all covid guidelines provided on our website. Please do not come in if you are sick (even if it is unrelated to covid), we ask that you respect other’s health and stay home while you recover.

If you are injured, teachers need to be made aware prior to the start of class so that accommodations can be met.

Never attempt a skill without the okay from a teacher and proper training.

We ask that you are kind and encouraging to all students/staff. We do not tolerate gossip or bullying of any kind. (if you or a student you know experiences this, please let your teacher know privately as soon as you can so we can properly address the issue.)

Many of our classes have required attire. If your class does not have a required attire listed upon registration, please use the following as a guideline:

If you attend a class in attire that is deemed inappropriate or unsuitable for safety or other reasons, you may be asked to change clothing or leave class.

Some classes involve contact in movements, skills, or improvisationally. Please be aware and courteous of appropriate contact and respect the boundaries of classmates/teachers. If you do not wish to be involved in contact, inform your teacher prior to class. If someone you are working with does not wish to engage in the class contact, you must respect that request.

Communicate with your instructor if something you are doing feels like it is currently causing or may cause injury to you or others so that they can appropriately instruct and correct mistakes.
